Meet our coaches
All HY Runners coaches are qualified and licensed with UK Athletics, and have enhanced DBS checks.

Terry Skelton

Vice President of Sussex Athletics is a former high-level athlete. He has over 35 years of coaching experience; from beginners through to elite level and has spent thousands of hours out in all weathers ensuring his athletes get it done. Terry is held in high regard by all and himself motivated by seeing people improve.

Coach
Ross Skelton

Has been involved in athletics for 20 years and is a full-time athlete. His biggest achievement was running the Antrim half marathon in 2020, in a superb time of 64.37. Ross works as a coach at Charlotte Purdue Performance where he trains people from all over the world. Ross remains committed to his roots in Hastings and enjoys giving something back to the athletes in the groups he takes.

Darrin Botting

Has been coaching juniors for over 10 years. Darrin’s speciality lies with the older juniors, helping them to progress and achieve their goals. As well as running, Darrin coaches field events at the track. Darrin has taken many juniors through the ranks, both racing in competition and also training for the fun of it. Darrin is also a qualified Official and is also qualified in Track Management.

Emma Welch

Coaches the younger runners, she moved to Hastings 3 years ago from South London. Emma teaches at Sandown Primary school and is in the final year of a degree in Childhood Studies with Special Educational needs. She works with children with SEN at the weekend, both running a playgroup and offering respite care to families. Emma is a marathon runner and for her, it is all about seeing children thrive, keeping fit and having fun.

Kwame Oko Okojie

Kwame is a qualified coach, he has been running for a long time and believes that anybody can run. His favourite distances start at 20 miles. He knows what running can give mentally and physically through consistency and listening to your body. Kwame aims to encourage all he coaches to achieve this one step at a time. ‘Run as fast as you can for as long as you can’.

Glen Cooper

Glenn is a Qualified Leader in Running Fitness (LiRF), has a background in athletics and has competed in distances ranging from 100m to 400m. Glenn assists Darrin in training the younger athletes with emphasis on improving speed endurance and focusing on improvements to running form and posture.

Stacey Foster

Stacey is a qualified Leader in Running Fitness (LiRF) and helps out coaching as and when needed with all groups. She has been running since the age of 9 and has competed in many Sussex competitions and has also run in the elite field at both Great South and Great North runs. She is now returning all that she got taught from a young age to upcoming athletes.

Kelly Crowe

Kelly, a new mum, is a Sport Science graduate and has been a fitness instructor for over 10 years, and she has a keen interest in running, cross training and conditioning. Kelly is a Qualified Leader in Running Fitness (LiRF) and supports our fantastic running club and plays a part in helping our members achieve their goals.

Darren Rogers

Darren is a qualified Leader in Running Fitness (LiRF) and has just passed his Coaching qualification (CiRF). He helps out with the coaching of the younger runners under the guidance of Emma or Darrin.

Welfare is not exclusive to children, the safety of all athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers is of paramount importance to the club. To assist in maintaining the welfare of all HY Runners we require all members to consider their personal behaviour and the impact it may have on others, and that any misunderstandings are reported to a member of the committee.
If your child is a member of the club please do show them my photo and explain the role of the Welfare Officers within HY Runners, and encourage them to approach me with any worries or concerns. You can usually find me at the track on a Wednesday. Alternatively I am contactable via email or mobile.
Any suspicions of misconduct must be reported to one of the Welfare Officers in person or via email to Sophie or to one of the committee members in accordance with our procedures.
